Texas sues to get Oklahoma water

This case is Tarrant Regional Water District v. Rudolf Herrmann, et al., (Oklahoma Water Resources Board). This lawsuit was filed in federal court in the western district of Oklahoma, 5:07-cv-00045-HE. Tarrant is asking for declaratory and injunctive relief to enforce its right to appropriate, transfer and export stream water in Oklahoma pursuant to the Red River Compact, and the Supremacy and Commerce Clauses of the U.S. Constitution.

Tarrant Regional Water District provides water to 1.6 million people in north central Texas. They claim their population will double in fifty years.

Oklahoma Farm Bureau has concerns with meeting Oklahoma’s water needs in the future.
